The MOVES annual program and Festival offer great opportunities to view, create, perform, experiment & experience new ways of moving. The MOVES is a participatory all-in celebration of dance and community that challenges the dance status quo.

Curated by Kelly Drummond Cawthon, the inaugural MOVES festival was presented by Salamanca Arts Centre in 2016 and Moonah Arts Centre is thrilled to be the 2018 host. The dance moves to the Great Eastern Drive in 2019-2020.

When
In 2018 the MOVES has featured school holiday programs and performances and a September Festival celebration. Workshops and guest artist residencies will be happening across Tasmania in 2019, and the next Festival is scheduled for October 2020.

The 2018 Festival was jam packed of classes of all kinds for all levels of experiences. We had a daily Dance for Lunch class where you can come and try out anything from Flamenco to Burlesque. We had a hybrid moves series for the little more adventurous who want to try things like freerunning, urban or parcour. All classes are $5 each or you if you can't decide buy a series or Festival pass.

For those who wanted to be a part of making a performance? Adam Wheeler from Tasdance worked with dancers to make a performance then perform it all on the same day. There was also the Hybrid Elements Collective workshops where movers could train, create and perform across a week of workshops, creative sessions and events.

The un-convention
Every night of the festival we had a performance to see. Ranging from national and international artists presenting critically acclaimed works to emerging artists sharing work made only hours before, there was something for everyone.
